Peugeot 3008

Audi A4

The Peugeot 3008 is a family SUV that has been a common sight on UK roads since its initial launch in 2008.

The initial model was a hit within the industry, winning the What Car? Car of the Year Award in 2010. Despite this acclaim, the exterior styling of the first-generation 3008 left it somewhat forgettable in an increasingly competitive SUV market.

Peugeot addressed this criticism by significantly redesigning the exterior for the second-generation 3008, launched in 2016, and enhancing it further with a mid-life facelift in 2020. The new 3008 now boasts a distinctive, eye-catching exterior that helps it stand out in a crowded market—complemented by a comfortable interior and more efficient running costs.

Did this redesign pay off? Absolutely. More than 60,000 drivers voted the 3008 the “Best New Car” at the 2019 Auto Trader Awards, and it also claimed the title of “Best Medium SUV” at the CarBuyer Awards for four consecutive years.

The Peugeot 3008 is currently available with petrol, diesel and hybrid engines to suit all driving preferences. For petrol enthusiasts, a 1.2-litre PureTech engine with 130 hp is available. If you prefer diesel, a 1.5-litre BlueHDi engine that delivers up to 54.1mpg could be for you. Environmentally conscious? The 3008 is also available as both a hybrid and plug-in hybrid.

In terms of trim levels, the entry-level Active Premium comes well-equipped, featuring aluminium roof rails, a reversing camera, and automatic headlights. As the next step up, the Allure Premium adds keyless entry, internal ambient lighting, and satellite navigation. At the top of the range sits the GT, complete with adaptive cruise control, full LED headlights, and a sportier exterior look.

Inside, the 3008 is stylish and comfortable, with ample headroom and legroom for all passengers. The climate control is impressive and digital instrument panels as standard is a nice touch. Online reviews commend the 3008 as a comfortable ride, although some reports suggest that you can feel potholes and bumps in the road more than you can with other vehicles in the category.

From a safety perspective, the Peugeot 3008 scored a maximum of 5 stars in the Euro NCAP safety tests, and comes with a wide range of safety features as standard, including automatic emergency braking and lane departure warning system.

Overall, the Peugeot 3008 is a well respected, popular SUV that should make its way onto your shortlist if you’re looking for a comfortable car for the family that’s affordable to run
