The Mercedes GLE is a premium family SUV that has technically been on UK roads since 1997 as the Mercedes M-Class. Mercedes changed their nomenclature in 2015, renaming their M-Class models to GLE.

The GLE offers a spacious interior, providing the option of seven seats, and it’s fair to say that in terms of luxury, comfort and specification this SUV is one of the best in its class. In fact, the Mercedes GLE won the Auto Trader New Car Award for “Best 7 Seater” back in 2021.

Since 2019, all GLE models use some form of hybrid technology and if you’re looking for a petrol hybrid engine you have the option of the self-charging GLE 450 4Matic, or the plug-in GLE 400e 4Matic. If you’re more interested in a diesel engine for those longer drives, you have the option of two self-charging hybrids, the 300d 4Matic and 450d 4Matic, or the plug-in GLE 350de.

The GLE is a premium SUV, and is priced as such – but the high price point is more than offset by its beautifully designed interior, impressive technology, and smooth performance, It also features a sophisticated infotainment system with two high-definition screens to cover instrumentation and infotainment.

The GLE has a Euro NCAP safety rating of 5 stars, and safety features including traction control, active brake assist and attention assist. From a fuel economy perspective this ranges based on your engine choice, but you can typically expect to get between 26 mpg and 39 mpg.
